Research Description
The overall goal is to understand motor neuron biology to develop effective treatments for motor neuron diseases such as spinal muscular atrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and a group of motor neuron diseases called hereditary motor neuropathies.
The Kolb Lab is interested in the molecular determinants of the entire life cycle of the motor neuron. In collaboration with other laboratories in the Center for Muscle Health and Neuromuscular Disorders at Ohio State and Nationwide Children’s Hospital, the Kolb Lab has translational and basic science components that are focused on optimizing the way motor neuron diseases can be modeled, studied and targeted in the lab, leading the way to improvements in therapeutic development and clinical trial design.
